Welcome to the RIJC, a significant part of the Roosevelt Island community for over 40 years. We are delighted to welcome you back, or invite you for the first time, to join us for the High Holidays and become a member or supporter. We are an active, liberal, egalitarian congregation that strives to engage, include, and support the Jewish community on Roosevelt Island. We are dedicated to increasing meaningful and spiritually engaging participation in all that we do.
We continue to be committed to offering synagogue membership to everyone, regardless of individual or family financial circumstances. For this coming year, as in the past few years, we have not increased our suggested rates; these rates, and donations cover most but not all of our actual expenses. Won't you please consider increasing your financial contribution this year? Your thoughtful generosity, whether you are a new-comer or a returning member, will allow a few more folks to be part of our community and help cover our costs.
The RIJC has come a long way from our Purim celebration of March 2020 in the Sanctuary in the Cultural Center. Despite the pandemic, or maybe because of it, Rabbi Joel mastered Zoom, and we continued to enjoy Shabbat services, a summer of Havdalah observances, holiday, festival and life-cycle events, adult learning occasions, and even a Bnai Mitzvah or two. In the 2nd half of 2021, Rabbi Joel cautiously led us out of our home-based activities to celebrate outdoors, the first night of Rosh Hashanah & the end of Yom Kippur in summer heat, and the last night of Chanukah in the winter cold. Now, as we continue our return to our Sanctuary, maintain our Zoom presence, and remain Covid-cautious, your Membership and financial support enables us to keep going strong.
If the RIJC has been the place you’ve turned to as your Island Jewish resource, please generously reflect this in your contribution. You may also want to consider sponsoring a particular event or aesthetic improvement in our rebuilt home. Nina Lublin, our president, or Steve Kaufman, our treasurer, would be happy to arrange this with you. With your generous help, the RIJC will be able to continue to provide a broad range of services and activities to the Roosevelt Island Jewish community.
